If you were wondering …
I think I’m done.
I’ve been on a nearly five-month hiatus for personal reasons, and I’ve come to realize, at this point, I really don’t have much motivation or interest in continuing Cheap Thrills. I’ve been putting off writing this for a long while, but I think I really owe it to readers to let them know the deal.
I’ve been doing this comic for six years now, and the story and characters have existed in some form for at least ten, and I’m just … tired of it. Every time I try to draw a page, it’s a complete drag. Every time I sit down to write, I just end up hating most of what I’ve written. I’m tired of the story, and I think I need to work on something different.
There are way too many things that frustrate me about this comic and I don’t feel like it’s worth the effort to go back and change those things, especially if I’m already burnt out on it as is. I hate to end it here, but in order to even get the story to some place where it would make sense to end it, I’d probably have to work on it for another couple of years (at least, if I wanted to stick to the story as written). I still like the characters, and may do something else with them in the future (short comics or something, I’ve got some vignettes from the main character’s childhoods that I might want to illustrate).
Anyway, I don’t know if people want to know what would’ve ended up happening or not; I was thinking of maybe doing a short synopsis of where the plot would’ve gone or a Q&A or something if people are interested? I don’t think I’ll be revisiting or restarting this comic any time soon (but if I did, I think it would still be an OK read even if you know what happens).
